Seat Considerations for Adult Tricycles

What kind of seat do you want? When you begin to do a little research, you will quickly see there are many variations for choosing seats for a bike. Each person has a different body and preference, and so it is vital to get a seat that is right for you. An uncomfortable seat will harm the body and make it uncomfortable to ride for prolonged periods.Adult Tricycle

Below, we want to take some time to go over important considerations and decisions between different types of an adult tricycle.

The first and probably most essential step is to determine the type of riding. For most, seats are broken up into five categories (based on the type of riding). These five include:

  1. Bike Commuting: a bit of extra padding for longer commutes.
  2. Bike Touring: these seats provide cushioning for sit bones, which makes long rides comfortable.
  3. Road Cycling: These seats are great for racing and long-distance rides. The seats are typically narrow and long, which provides a better transfer of power while pedaling.
  4. Mountain Biking: the rider takes many varied positions while riding on mountains or trails. Mountain bike seats best met the needs of extreme riders.
  5. Recreational Cycling: short rides on an urban cruiser typically benefit from plush padding and springs. Some of these noses are short for added comfort.

Cargo Bikes

Once you pick a style, you want to consider the cushioning you need. There are two broad categories when identifying cargo bike saddles. Performance saddles are long and have minimal padding that is meant to create extra power when pedaling. A narrow seat reduces chafing between the thighs for long rides. Cushioning saddles are wide and have springs built in that are meant to absorb bumps in the road. Recreational riders like these seats.
