Bringing Your Dog Along on Your Next Bike Ride

Cargo BikesFor most people, our four-legged friends are more than just pets; they’re family. We want to bring them everywhere with us, and this includes bike rides. If you regularly use a bike to get around, it’s important to find one that works for you and your pet. Cargo bikes are excellent for those who want to take their dog with them on their next bike ride.

Regarding cargo bikes for your dog, there are a few locations where you can place the basket: the front, the back, and the side. Each location comes with benefits. Placing the basket in the front of your cargo bike allows you to keep an eye on your pet while allowing them a full view of the road. A rear basket can hold a large dog, weighing up to 160 pounds. Sidecars are great for smaller dogs. Side baskets have a weight limit of about 22 pounds.

When it comes to cargo bikes and pets, safety should be your top priority. Just like you would on a walk, while bike riding with your dog, it’s important that they are always on a leash. Most cargo bikes are equipped with eyelets that allow the dog to sit in the basket while on the lead. Consider accessorizing your bike with an anti-slip mat so the dog can safely stand in the basket. One more excellent safety addition is reflective tape. Adding reflective tape is advised if you’re planning to cycle at night.
